  • Brigg Poppy 10K – 25 October 2026

A Challenging Race, Autumn Atmosphere and an Inspiring Running Legend

On Sunday, 25 October 2026, I took part in the Brigg Poppy 10K, held in the historic market town of Brigg, North Lincolnshire.

The event brought together runners of different ages and abilities, creating a wonderful atmosphere throughout the town. The streets were filled with participants, spectators and volunteers, while the autumn colours added a special character to the occasion.

However, the weather presented an additional challenge. Strong winds made sections of the 10-kilometre course particularly demanding, testing both physical endurance and determination.

Despite the strong winds and the absence of some registered participants, those who took part showed great determination and enthusiasm. The encouragement from spectators and the friendly atmosphere made the event an enjoyable experience, even in challenging conditions.

The poppy theme also gave the race a special meaning, reflecting remembrance and respect for those who served and sacrificed their lives.

Official Race Results – Brigg Poppy 10K 2026

    • Race date: 25 October 2026
    • Runner: Roman Janov
    • Race number: 577
    • Distance: 10 km
    • Official net time: 00:51:40

    • Age category (45–49): 27th out of 59
    • Male category: 270th out of 515

Completing the race in 51 minutes and 40 seconds under challenging windy conditions was another valuable experience and an opportunity to continue developing my running performance.

Jimmy Dutch– A Running Legend with 42 Years of Dedication

One of the most memorable moments of the event was spending time with Jimmy, an inspiring runner who has been actively involved in running for an incredible 42 years.

Throughout his long running career, Jimmy has participated in marathons, half-marathons and numerous other races worldwide. Even after more than four decades, his passion for running continues, and he still regularly takes part in 10K events.

At the Brigg Poppy 10K, Jimmy also celebrated an achievement in his age category, demonstrating that dedication and enthusiasm for sport do not have an age limit.

Meeting Jimmy was a wonderful reminder that running is not only about personal records or finishing positions. It is also about lifelong commitment, friendships, shared experiences and staying active throughout life.

His determination and positive attitude are truly inspiring.

    More Than Just 10 Kilometres

The Brigg Poppy 10K was a memorable combination of challenging weather, autumn scenery, community spirit and inspiring people.

From the excitement before the start to crossing the finish line and receiving the beautifully designed remembrance medal, the day offered many special moments.

The experience reinforced something I value about running: every event has its own story, and sometimes the people we meet along the way are just as memorable as the race itself.

    Leeds Running Festival 2026

Taking part in the Leeds Running Festival 2026 was a special milestone for me — it was my first ever 10K race.

My goal was simple: to finish my first 10K in under 60 minutes. I set 60 minutes as my personal limit — a target that would challenge me to keep running and not give up when it became difficult.

I crossed the finish line in 58 minutes and 38 seconds, with a recorded distance of 10.25 km and an average pace of 5:42 per kilometre.

But the experience was about much more than the time. What made the event special was the atmosphere — surrounded by athletes, supporters and genuinely kind people. There was a wonderful sense of encouragement, respect and consideration between people, creating an atmosphere that made everyone feel part of something positive.

The event was a great success for me, and I came away with great memories, a first 10K medal and even more motivation for the next challenge.

For me, running is about consistency, discipline and continuing to move forward, one step and one kilometre at a time.

You don’t have to be the fastest. You just have to keep moving forward.

This is only the beginning of my running journey, and I am already looking forward to the next race with renewed motivation.
